Don't forget, the monthly associational meeting is held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month and the Rankin County ARES net is every Thursday at 8:30 PM on the 147.345 repeater. You do not have to be an ARES member to join in on the net. If you would like to become an ARES member, go to the ARES page on this website and download the application. There is no cost and you will be helping your community.
The ARRL Day In the Park was a great success, despite very adverse weather conditions and a last minute change of venue. In an attempt to get out of the rain, the location was changed from Shiloh Park, in Brandon, to the River Oaks Women's Hospital Educational Annex. We were able to play host to over forty visitors.
As my term begins, I want to thank last year's President, Eric Anderson, KF5EZT, Vice-President, Mike Dancey, WX5H, and all of the Board for their dedication and hard work. Under their leadership the association has grown in every way. It is a pleasure to follow in their footsteps and this year's Board will strive to build on their success.
We are fortunate to have Rick Nichols, KF5V, one of the association's founding members and it's first President, back on the Board as Vice-President. His insight will be invaluable in the coming year and we appreciate his willingness to again take a leadership role.
On behalf of all the Board, thank you for the opportunity to serve the association and amateur radio. We are mindful that amateur radio is both a hobby and a service and our goals are to serve our community and to make the "hobby" more fun for our members.
Of course, the success of this association or any ham radio group in meeting these goals depends upon the participation of its members. There always seem to be more leadership positions available than people willing to serve. Please consider how you might serve and join us in both the "fun" and "service" that is amateur radio.
The Field Day results are published in the December edition of QST. The digital version was released last Friday. The CMARA score can be found on page 75 near the bottom of the far left column. Our total score was 2506 with 415 contacts.
Congratulations to Eric, KF5EZT, Mike Dancey, WX5H, and all of the Field Day team on a great job!
