Field Day 2008 was a great success!  I wish to thank everyone that worked so hard to make Field Day 2008 a great event.  The food, fun, and fellowship, was more than I ever expected.  For those that could not make it, you missed a great time, and for those that did make it, thanks for your participation.

Let's all work together to help grow our association.  If everyone would ask a few people to come to a meeting, there would probably be a few new hams.

Our August meeting will feature a presentation by the National Weather Service on Hurricane Preparedness.  This is an informative and entertaining presentation.  There are two courses available from FEMA that would be of great benefit to anyone living in the Gulf South.  These courses can be taken online and are free.
The first Course is "Community Hurricane Preparedness, IS-234" and can be accessed by going to: http://tinyurl.com/63clw8.   The second course is "IS-271 Anticipating Hazardous Weather and Community Risk" and may be reached at:  http://tinyurl.com/arrlmsweather.   There are a number of other FEMA courses that relate to HAM radio and the recommended are:  ISO-100, ISO-200, ISO-700, and ISO-800.  To see all the available FEMA courses go to http://training.fema.gov/is/  .

Our first fox hunt has been scheduled for Aug. 2nd, 2008.  We will meet at the BASS Pro Shop in Pearl at 2:00 PM and the area and rules will be laid out.  The Fox Hunt will be on 2 meter simplex.  This is a fun event, not for points or prizes, however, if all goes well, and there is enough interest, we plan to make this a quarterly event.  As this is our first event, teams of two will be allowed.  In the future, we may adopt a more formal approach and follow established Fox Hunt rules.  Any questions contact k5fv@cmsara.org.
